25 TUNES OF XMAS 2017

25-tunes-2017-pic.jpg

For the fourth year in a row, I'm composing a new piece of music every day for the first 25 days of December and recording a rough demo to post here - kind of like a new music advent calendar.  This creative challenge is not only to write new music, but to push myself to expand the styles & range of music I create. Enjoy!

DECEMBER 16 - DEBBIE'S 50TH

We tried to go bowling. It was Debbie's 50th Bday party and the bowling alley was full. This is for Debbie.

DECEMBER 15 - CLOUD IN JUDGEMENT

Another little song idea with this lyric that popped in my head.

DECEMBER 14 - THE BEST AHEAD

A little melody / song idea that came from the phrase "the best is around the corner".

DECEMBER 13 - WEC 1900

Written for the man or woman who had my fiddle in 1900 and left a little mark on the instrument.

DECEMBER 12 - ORCHESTRATED IMPROV

Over the years and after many conversations about how the writing process works for me, today I aimed to sit down and create a theme in one take. No do overs for performance, creative choice, intonation, etc..

DECEMBER 11 - GRASSY WINTER

Inspired by the first snow fall in Toronto this December.

DECEMBER 10 - A BACKDROP OF CHANGE

A little soundscape inspired by the idea of knowing change is coming and having to wait for it.

DECEMBER 9 - WINTER BEACH

A run along the beach in the winter brought this little melody to be.

DECEMBER 8 - AWAITING THE ARRIVAL

Inspired by the journey of pregnancy.

DECEMBER 7 - PASSION PLANNER

Inspired by the company that makes the day planner I have been using for the last few years. Passion Planner.

DECEMBER 6 - LITTLE GIRAFFE

This was inspired by the little giraffe that hangs on the window in my studio/office. My niece made it for me and it always reminds me to allow a smile to lessen a busy or stressful situation.

DECEMBER 5 - RAMSAY'S

Written for my good friend and incredible photographer Scott Ramsay.

DECEMBER 4 - THE CONFERENCE

Inspired by the experience of a music conference. You never know what it will lead to.

DECEMBER 3 - THE STREETCAR DESIRE

Inspired by people watching on a streetcar in Toronto.

DECEMBER 2 - CONTEST MEMORIES

I spent so many years playing fiddle contests, this tune is a little homage back to those days.

DECEMBER 1 - OLD FRIEND

Inspired by that feeling of visiting an old friend.

If you want something new, you have to stop doing something old
